High School

 iCenter Hours

7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

On June 2, 2011, Portage High School closed its library and on August 29, 2011, we opened our 21st century iCenter.  The design is based on flexible learning spaces to meet today's students' needs.  The walls were painted bright orange and green, chairs were recovered in bright fabrics, and coffee shop tables with stools were added.  Students are now allowed to bring their laptops, iPods, and iPads and use them while they are working in the iCenter.  Students have filled the new learning space to capacity nearly every hour since the first day of school.    The student reaction has been extremely favorable and students say they enjoy the colorful, comfortable learning environment.  The ideas for this transformation began in March when our HS librarian Dahlia Werner, our HS principal Robin Kvalo, and Sue Conner, Director of Technology attended a Leadership for 21st Century Learners conference.
