Principal's Corner

Check out my most recent blog:  Principal goes to Washington DC

Welcome to Portage High School's website.
It's home to the Portage Warriors
and the BEST students and staff in the state!
The 2016-17 School Year is going to be terrific!
We welcome the Class of 2020 to PHS!
Big happenings this year.  I'm heading to Washington DC
to represent Portage High School and the State of Wisconsin
on September 11 as 2016 Secondary Principal of the Year.  I'll meet
the other 49 Principals of the Year and hope to tap into their vast knowledge
to continue to serve and make PHS the best!  I'll also have an opportunity
to meet with Senator Baldwin, Senator Johnson and Representative Grothman
on Capital Hill.  You can be sure I'll share all the wonderful things our
students and staff do at PHS!  In addition, I'll be lobbying for more support
of Education at the Federal level.  Follow my time in DC on my Twitter account.

Profile and Professional Experience

2015-16 school year was amazing as I was honored with the
Herb Kohl Leadership Award and the
Wisconsin Secondary Principal of the Year.
I am humbled and quite honored for the recognition for both awards.

I have wanted to be an educator since the age of 8. I realized my dream
upon graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1981 with a
Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education.  I began teaching 2nd grade
in New Port Richey, Florida.  I then taught 2nd grade in Porterdale, Georgia
until our move back to Wisconsin in 1993.

It has been an honor to serve the students and community
of Portage Schools since 1994.  My career in Portage has included teaching
primary ages at Muir, Caledonia and Rusch, where I moved in 1998 to open
Rusch Elementary as a new elementary school in Portage.
I finished my Master's of Science degree at UW-Madison in 1998
and became the principal of Rusch for 13 years in 1999. I stayed there
until 2011 when I became the principal of Portage High School,
where I continue to serve today.

My husband, Mike, and I have lived in Portage since 1993.  Our two sons,
went to Portage Schools from kindergarten through graduation.  I am proud
to say that PCS prepared them well for successful college experiences and
now highly successful careers. Portage Schools set the stage for them to be
both college and career ready.

My goal as the principal of Portage High School is to offer those
same experiences to my current students.  Our rich curriculum offerings
provide the solid foundation for life beyond high school.  Our students come
away as well rounded young people who can choose between continuing
education at a two or four-year college or technical school.  They are also
prepared to serve in the armed forces, in an apprenticeship
or go directly into the workforce.  We are preparing 21st Century
learners for life that requires critical thinking, communication,
collaboration, and creativity.  I am proud that no matter what they wish to do
in their adult life, "PHS is where their dreams can be realized".
