Welcome to a new school year!
My name is Jessica Howe and I have been teaching Physical Education for the Portage Community Schools since 2014 (first 4 yrs at Bartels Middle School). I started my teaching career in 2003 at Oshkosh Lourdes.
Did you know the benefits of physical education can affect both academic learning and physical activity patterns of students? The healthy, physically active student is more likely to be academically motivated, alert, and successful. Besides all of that, it's a super fun time!
I am one of the 2 Physical Education teachers at Portage High School. I am teaching Team & Individual Sports, Lifetime Activities, and Officiating Athletics.
I graduated high school from Hayward, WI in 1997 where I was a proud Hurricane three sport athlete (volleyball, basketball, and track) and graduated 6th in my class. Let's just say, I studied and played like a CANE!
I earned my Bachelor's Degree (Physical Education, Health, Coaching) from UW Oshkosh in 2003 while playing basketball for the Titans and returned in 2008 for my Adaptive PE Add-on. I then earned my Master's Degree through UW LaCrosse in 2008.
My first position was at Lourdes Academy in Oshkosh teaching PE, Health and Computers while also serving as the head coach for the varsity basketball and softball programs.
I then moved to Theresa, where I started teaching in the Mayville School District and coached 5th, 7th and JV girls' basketball.
I was hired as the head Portage Head Girls Basketball Coach for the 2017-18 school year. I am so excited for this opportunity and am always counting down the days for the season to start!
Email is the best way to get in touch with me and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
