Summer School Course List:
Kindergarten Camp (Students entering 5K only in fall 2026): This program is designed to help each student prepare for kindergarten. Students will gain/build these skills through exploring and play! In this playful rich learning environment, the students will access math and early literacy skills. Students will take part in playful learning experiences with an emphasis on valuing children’s emotions, voices, and perspectives. **Students enrolling in this class will attend from 8:00 AM - 12 PM
First Grade Camp (Students entering 1st Grade only in the fall of 2026): Get your student ready for first grade with our fun summer reading program! Each week, we'll read exciting stories, play phonics games, and do hands-on activities to help your child learn new words and understand stories better. Our friendly teachers create a supportive environment where your child can build confidence and develop a love for reading. Join us this summer to give your child a head start for first grade! ***All students entering the first grade in the fall will attend this class for two class periods a day and then will have two other classes of their choice for the rest of the morning.
Reading Fun: ***Students entering the second or third grade in the fall AND who have a personalized reading plan. Students will get a boost for the fall! This fun, creative course gives students extra reading practice through engaging poems, exciting Reader's Theater, and/or literacy games. Students will build confidence and essential reading skills.
Intensive Summer Reading Support: *** Students entering the 4th grade in the fall of 2026 who have a personalized reading plan OR students entering the 3rd grade who have a personal reading plan AND received a tier 3 pullout reading service ***You should receive a notice attached to your student’s session report indicating they are eligible. If you have questions about eligibility, please contact your reading teacher. *** If ONLY attending Reading Intervention, write "Reading Intervention Only" on line 1 and you must provide transportation to and from intervention. Reading intervention staff will contact you with your students' time during the last week of the school year.
Around the World in 16 Days: This exciting summer course takes students on a virtual journey across 16 diverse countries, offering an immersive cultural experience without leaving home. Each day, students will explore a new destination through virtual field trips, sample authentic foods, learn key phrases in native languages, and engage in fun games popular with children their age. By the end of the course, students will have gained a deeper appreciation for global cultures, broadened their perspectives, and made lasting memories of their travels.
Art Exploration: In this class, you will explore different types of art styles using a wide variety of art supplies.
Board Game Fun: Students will get to spend time building relationships with their peers while learning to play many different board games. The students will practice their problem-solving skills while having fun and making friends.
Cartooning and Illustrations: Learn how to draw fun characters, tell stories with pictures, and create your own amazing cartoons! Let your creativity shine as you bring your ideas to life!
Cooperative Games: Do you like games? Have fun playing cooperative games and learning valuable social skills, including teamwork, relationship-building, listening, communication, and more. This group engages in social-emotional learning with a variety of activities and games designed to grow participants; confidence in building friendships and managing emotions, all while having fun.
Doodles: Students will get to relax and have fun doodling. We will learn how to draw some of our favorite book characters, like Elephant and Piggie, and listen to directions to learn how to draw them on our own.
Falling Domino Masters: Line up dominoes and watch them fall! Students will be given various challenges related to lining up dominoes to watch them fall! Students will have fun creating designs while using physics to determine the speed and success of their designs.
Garden Exploration: Let's learn about gardening! There is so much involved in gardening, we will explore a little bit of everything! We will help maintain the Muir school garden, complete scavenger hunts and bug safaris outdoors, make crafts related to gardening, start seeds, design our own garden, and explore the science behind plants and seeds.
Jigsaw Puzzles!!: Engage in a variety of puzzles. Besides the standard box puzzles, there are sticker puzzles and logical puzzles which have become favorites for many students.
Lego Creations: Students will build different Lego creations each day. Students will use creativity, imagination, and building skills to complete projects.
Math Games: Come count on me. We will practice math skills by playing card games, doing dot-to-dots, coloring by number/equations, playing math games, and using Number Blocks and puzzles. That sounds like such a fun way to learn math!
Minute to Win It-Team Building: Students will perform various tasks and challenges individually, with partners, and on small teams. Many activities will be timed to add an extra challenge!
Move It!: Wanna have fun being active while building teamwork and movement skills? How about playing exciting games and taking on challenges in small groups? Whether we are running, jumping, or playing together, every day can be an adventure in MOVE IT!
Playground Games: Join us for a summer of fun and active play in our Playground Games class! Students will enjoy classic games like tag, dodgeball, and capture the flag while developing skills in teamwork, coordination, and sportsmanship. Perfect for kids who love outdoor fun and friendly competition, this class promises lots of laughter, movement, and new friendships!
Summer Snacks: Start summer snacking off right by creating some new, delicious summer snacks and making crafts! Each day we will test out a new recipe and find creative ways to enjoy summer foods while creating a craft. Come to class hungry and ready to snack! And, of course, you will get to take the recipes home with you to show your friends and family what you can create and make.
Tennis Basics: This summer school tennis class introduces students to the fundamentals of tennis in a fun and engaging environment. Students will learn basic skills such as proper grip, racket handling, and footwork, as well as techniques for forehand, backhand, and simple serves. Activities include interactive drills, mini-games, and teamwork challenges designed to develop coordination, balance, and sportsmanship. No prior experience is needed, and equipment will be provided (you may bring your own too). The focus is on building confidence, staying active, and fostering a love for the game of tennis.
Volleyball: Serve up some fun and teamwork in our exciting volleyball class! Designed for young players, this class is all about learning the fundamentals of volleyball in a supportive and high-energy environment. Kids will have a blast mastering skills like passing, setting, and serving while building teamwork, coordination, and sportsmanship.
Walking Club: Join the Walking Club for a fun way to explore the outdoors! We'll take guided walks around the school grounds and nearby paths, learning about our environment and getting active. It's a great way to make new friends, develop a love for walking, and enjoy the summer sunshine.
