Your best chance of winning funds for college is through the Local Scholarship Program with over $95,000 in free money available to Portage High School and Portage Academy of Achievement graduating seniors.

The scholarship listing and book are made available to Seniors the week before Christmas Break. If you miss the meeting, you can obtain the Local Scholarship Booklet from the Counseling Office or on the Counseling Office website. The deadline for applications to be submitted is usually on the first week of February.

Here's how to get started:

Click on SCHOLARSHIP BOOK in the right column to see which scholarships you may qualify for.
Prepare and gather the following documents to upload in the application:
- Career Plan Essay
- Financial Need Essay
- Resume
- Three Letter of Recommendation
- Topic Essay or Attachment
- Transcript
- General Application Sheet
Create your folder with the documents above. In order to restrict access (make sure that other students cannot see your application) complete these steps:
- Open Google Drive on your computer.
- Find and right-click the folder you want to restrict.
- Click "Share" or "Share settings"
- To enable limited access, check the "Limit access" box.
- Alternatively, you can go to "General access" and change it to "Restricted"
- Click "Back".
Add Ms. Kohl (Stephanie Kohl) as an editor to give me access to the folder so I can send it to donors. Otherwise only you can see your application.
Uncheck ""Notify People”
Click "Done" or save your changes.
Complete and access the Local Scholarship Application: Go to the Portage HS website.
- Go to the ACADEMICS tab, click on “Counseling Office”.
- On the left, click on “Local Scholarships”.
- Click on “PHS Applications” in the right column.
- After you have restricted access and added Ms Kohl as an editor to the folder, drag and drop your applications into the scholarship folders you want to apply for. If you are applying for scholarships that require additional essays, make separate folders for them.
