In 1991 I received a degree from Purdue University (Go Boilermakers!), where I double majored in Elementary Education (K-6) and Special Education (PreK-12). Following college graduation, I moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan (Go Wolverines!). I spent 5 years teaching in inner-city Detroit (grades 3-6), an experience that I would not trade for anything in the world. While in Michigan, I received a master’s degree in Special Education. In 1996, my husband and I moved to Ames, Iowa (Go Cyclones!). In Ames, I taught for three years at the elementary school level. In the summer of 2000, my family moved to Portage, Wisconsin (Go Badgers!). I have taught in the high school special education department since moving here, with the exception of a one-year stint at Woodridge Elementary. It has been a great experience and I plan to call Portage my home for the remainder of my life.
