¡Bienvenidos! Welcome 7th and 8th grade students and parents!
I teach three courses:
*7th Grade Exploratory Spanish (1 quarter)
*8th Grade Exploratory Spanish (1 semester)
*Spanish I (1 year)
If your child is a 7th grader, he or she will most likely experience the wonders of the Spanish language and Hispanic culture in the 7th grade Exploratory course, which takes place each day for one quarter.
If your child is an 8th grader, he or she can choose to take the 8th grade Exploratory course, or Spanish I. The 8th grade Exploratory course takes place each day for one semester. This course is designed for further exploration of the Spanish language and Hispanic culture beyond the topics covered in 7th grade.
The formats for both exploratory courses are similar; students study vocabulary based on a theme such as "Numbers" or "Weather" and learn to speak simple phrases and sentences. Your child will not have a textbook in the exploratory classes, although he or she will be responsible for taking notes on various topics.
The format of Spanish I is quite different than the exploratory courses. Spanish I takes place each day through the entire school year. Spanish I is a high school level class and your child will have the opportunity to earn a high school elective credit. We follow the same curriculum as Portage High School and your child will have a textbook and he or she will also be responsible for completing homework outside of class. Your child will not only learn vocabulary, but he or she will also use grammar to form questions and sentences. Students are graded on activities that take place during class, assignments, projects, quizzes, and tests, as well as a cumulative exam at the end of each semester.
Please look for information regarding your child's specific course listed on the left.
Feel free to contact me at any time at 742-2165 ext. 305 or by email. I look forward to hearing from you!
